An Interior Fit-Out For Ice Cream Factory in Maryland Mall, Lagos by CMD+A

Ice cream factory is an indigenous company that pioneered locally made Ice Cream in Lagos, Nigeria. One of their latest outlets located on the upper-second floor at Maryland Mall had an impressive interior fit-out delivered by CMD+A.

The Lagos-based practice were able to make the most of 93 sqm to create an open and bright retail space all the while seating over 20 customers comfortably without disrupting foot traffic in and out of the store. CMD+A worked within the company’s brand guidelines while also offering their unique design aesthetic. This is evidenced in their collaboration with Interior Living to create bespoke ‘lighting cages’ for some of the lighting based on the aesthetic of their signature fractures. (Something we came across at last year’s guide exhibition)

Here’s a description of the project from the architects,

As designers, the consumers’ experience of the space is very important to us. We were very particular about creating an aura of calm using light, in line with what is appropriate for a café lounge.  We created an experience of a European café window by strategically locating the cozy seating by the window with floods of natural light which also overlooks the escalators on the second floor below, creating a magical place to sit and ‘people-watch’.

We also worked with Interior Living to create fractural bespoke pendant lights strategically located by the ‘shop window’ and creating a focal point for each seating circle.
