Tola Akerele’s IDesign recently completed interior work for a show house in Al Waha Villas – a new residential estate in Bompai GRA, Kano City. The villas within the estate are characterised by a modern iteration of traditional islamic architecture in both their layout and exterior aesthetic. This character is what the designers translated in their vision for the interior spaces.
The brief was to stage a house that would serve as a show home for a new estate in Kano. It was a unique project as the exterior aesthetic was unusual and stunning; simple, islamic and contemporary. We had to ensure we balanced the uniqueness of the exterior with the interior to create something of equal interest. We worked closely with the architect to ensure maximum functionality of each space. We had to consider the culture in the layout, design and decorating scheme, we also had hints of Arabic design mainly through lighting. The result was a very inviting space for potential home buyers.
