ACCL Unveil their Winning Design Proposal for the African Reinsurance Corporation Head Office in Abuja.

Lagos-based Architecture practice, Adeniyi Coker Consultants Ltd (ACCL) have unveiled their winning design scheme for the proposed African Reinsurance Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital City of Nigeria.

The Africa Reinsurance Corporation had put out a request for proposal in February 2019, for the development of the proposed Africa Re Corporate Headquarters in line with the company’s decision to relocate its head office from Lagos to Abuja. The design scheme by ACCL was selected from the received submissions.

There design fulfills Africa Re’s brief for a head-office building with a modern and unique design that will provide tier 1 facilities on one hand and a sustainable and energy efficient design on the other, making use of smart technology and achieving most especially, achieving LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Situated on a sloping 5800 sqm plot, the 12 storey office block (including a basement) offers a gross floor area of 24 500 sqm, providing a total of 13 000 sqm of usable office space, with parking space for over 250 cars. The building features terrace gardens at various levels along with green planters on either side. Its most prominent design feature would have to be the expansive canopy roof with its large overhang that shades the glazed facade of the building and provides a flat platform to house a large array of solar panels which contribute significantly to the energy needs of the building. The video below offers more detail about the design scheme as well as the inspiration behind it.
