Abroad ~ A Photography exhibition by Francois-Xavier Gbré at Art Twenty One, Eko Hotels and suites, Lagos

 

Art 21, in collaboration with Galerie Cecile Fakhoury (Abidjan) is presenting “ABROAD”, a photography exhibition showing the works of Francois-Xavier Gbré. The opening reception will be on Friday, the 14th of November 2014 from 6pm to 9pm in the presence of the artist. The exhibition will run from 15th of November 2014 to 10th of January 2015 at Eko Hotels and suites, Victoria Island.

 

~ His Biography ~

Born in 1978 , in Lille, a French mother and Ivorian father, he lives and works in France and West Africa . In 2002, he graduated in photography at the Superior School of Artistic Trades Montpellier. Since then, he travels the worlds, explore worlds , fashion portrait , architecture social witness. Addition to his research in urban space , it carries studio especially during the past four years in Milan. He returns regularly and gradually provides a social portrait of multicultural Italy .

Since 2009 , he produced a work of memory and archive of forgotten spaces. An immigrant and Métis , he feels close nomads destinies, in a perpetual in-between. Naturally , it creates links between places that have stood the test of time and that can prove to be symbols. His photographs reflect the passage of men , their experiences . From Israel to Bamako , through Cotonou or Lome , he reveals the traces in architecture , fragments of humanity. Tracks series reveals the deserted spaces filled with memories, possible history.

His work has been presented in the exhibition New Africa in Casablanca , We Face Forward in Manchester, Visual Arts Festival of Abidjan, the 8th and 9th Bamako Encounters – African Photography Biennial at the Blachere Foundation or at Photoquai . In 2010, his work was nominated for the award Danny Wilson at the Brighton Photo Biennial and is rewarded by the second Tarifa PHOTOAFRICA price competition.
