Not so Rosy Living: The rose of sharon tower

UPDATE: Contrary to the previous assertion, ACCL was not responsible for the design of the Rose of Sharon Tower, our sincerest apologies for the mix up. That role goes to AIM Consultants who were the architects for the project, which according to their site, is named “Famfa Oil Towers”. See their project page.

Lagos is getting more and more towers rising to house those that can afford it.You’d find most of them on Victoria Island, which is the major corporate business hub of the state and quite possibly the country. This is largely due to the large number of expats that work and live on the island and the growing interest of the international business community to come down to Lagos and invest. They’d need a place to stay, won’t they?
Well, the minds at DaySpring Development Property Company Ltd, are making sure they get the luxury treatment, or at least trying to. Day Spring birthed the Rose of Sharon Tower, a mixed use development with Ocean views, 3 floors of lettable office space and 8 floors of ‘luxury’ apartments. Numbering 32, the apartments on offer range from 1-3 bedrooms while the residents will enjoy amenities such as gyms, swimming pool and club room, as well as Flood Proof underground parking. All very nice but seemingly enclosed within a bit of a lack lustre structure. The facade lacks the oomph! that many other towers offer and comes off as dated. More of a missed opportunity.

The space planning of the flats apartments is also, a bit questionable, with the 2 bedroom typology having huge bedrooms but a dimunitive living area that feels tight and cramped, not particularly luxurious. It all just feels rushed and not up to par with other developments springing up around Lagos, like the Ramzi.

On a good note, to ensure the ‘designs’ were brought to life as the renderings depict, the Legendary (and expensive) Julius Berger were called in, and as the images below show, I think they were worth every penny, thankfully.
