Unilag is now offering a Masters of Landscape Architecture programme

The University of Lagos is inviting students with first degrees in environmental related disciplines, to apply for The Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA) Programme which is currently open.

The increase in environmental degradation has required the need to have more people involved in fostering the solution process. The state of Nigeria’s degraded Landscapes especially agricultural, recreational, cultural, residential and forestry landscapes has called for an ecological restoration process.

Deforestation, desertification, climate change, land degradation is happening at an alarming rate, our farmlands are degenerating, our residences has no element of recreation and we have little green infrastructures in both our Urban and rural areas. These problems has necessitated that young graduates undergo grooming who will be involved in the design solution process.

This piece is calling young graduates to the Landscape Architecture Profession. Landscape Architecture is about solving humanity’s problems using Design Solutions. It involves Garden Design, Landscape Design and Landscape Planning.

The scope of Landscape Architecture (LA) are

  • Agricultural LA,
  • Recreational LA,
  • Transportation LA,
  • Residential LA,
  • Commercial LA,
  • Forestry LA,
  • Energy LA,
  • Archeology LA,
  • Hydrology LA and
  • Mining LA.

The Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA) Programme at the University of Lagos is therefore inviting Students who had their 1st degree in any of the listed Environmental related disciplines; Horticulture, Forestry, Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Soil Science and Land Management, Water Resources Management and Agro Meteorology, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management,  Applied Botany, Earth Sciences, Plant Science, Quantity Surveying, Sociology and Anthropology, Geography and Planning Science, Building, Estate Management, Industrial Design, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Ecotourism and Wildlife Management, Geology, Remote Sensing and GIS, Marine Science and Technology, Civil Engineering, Agronomy, Agriculture, Archeology, Mining Engineering etc. to apply for the Post Graduate admissions which is currently open.  

Sales of application forms is open and ends on Sunday 16th June, 2019. Application forms can be accessed on the website of the School of Postgraduate Studies; http://spgs.unilag.edu.ng 

This call is a step towards building Young Landscape Architects who will be saddled with the responsibility of proffering design solutions to various environmental problems the Nigerian Landscapes is faced with.
