D-I-Y: A Very Functional Beautiful Sliding Door

Today’s DIY has to be this affordable and space saving sliding door. Small spaces can be a huge deal especially when they have a big door, and worse still, have the doors opening into the already small space. There are also cases when the door opens outside the space and you would prefer there was just nothing sticking out in the room visually. For instances like this, you can replace the hinge door with this sliding door. You can also give your project a different approach by using it in some auxilliary spaces like dressing rooms and bathrooms. You can have the door leaf designed however you want and use it as a decoratve and stylish accent to the room.

Here are pictures showing how the door was created;
 Have a design and make it as detailed as possible as this will inform how it will be constructed.

Use your detailed design to cut your wood into the different needed parts. You can work with a local wood factory using the dimensions from your design {if you do not have the tools needed but have the skills of woodworking}. If you are a designer but lack the skills of woodworking, you can work with a skilled woodworker to get this done.

 Here, the different sections of wood needed for the door surface has been cut. Attaching it to the board is next.

Finished look;

  Before and After
I noticed the door doesn’t have a security lock. This feature makes it better suited for spaces that don’t require locks. However, with more thought given, a lock system can be incorporated into the door. On another note, the same principle can be used to create a dual working open plan design. Such that, when in need of privacy in the kitchen, you slide it closed. And when in need of some openess, you slide it open. What do you think?

The choice of the handle and the general design of the door match perfectly giving the door a very modern, chic and quirky look. I tried to summarize as much as possible, but you can see more details on the tools and materials you will need from a beautiful mess, as well as a more detailed explanation of the steps you will follow.

DIY Tip of the day;

One of the most important things about DIY are your tools. No tools, no DIY. More complex project require more complex, mechanized tools like some of the ones used in this project. If you are a DIY starter, start with projects that are easiest for you to handle that woud require easily available tools. As your confidence and skill increases, you can work your way to the top by acquiring more complex tools that are suitable for the more advanced projects you want to do. Hope you find today’s tip helpful.
