African architecture and the future African city – A review of the Design Africa symposium

The Design Africa Symposium is an initiative of South African Architect Luyanda Mpahlwa,(the man behind the sandbag houses in SA) in partnership with the World Design Cape Town, in a bid to create discussion among African Architects on design visions for the African cities of the future.

Last year’s symposium generated intellectual stimulation and intense debate on the future of African Cities, the need to align the teaching and practice of design professions, and to address the specific context and needs of a diverse, developing and urbanising Africa. The motivation to strive for design excellence and relevance was encouraged. Heres a snippet from the event, but if you’d like to learn more, you can read an extensive recap of the here.
