The Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Usonia Collection by Inside Weather Delivers Affordable and Easy-to-Assemble Plywood Furniture

American Online Furniture Retailer Inside Weather, in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation recently launched the Usonia Collection- a selection of affordable furnishings inspired by Wright’s Usonian designs, with special nods to his iconic projects such as Falling water, the Honeycomb House, and Taliesin West.

The designs while inspired by the popular architectural work of America’s greatest architect, equally shed new light on his lesser known textile and furniture designs. Through an intensive study of rare product archives and previously unexplored architectural designs domiciled in Wright’s Taliesin West, Inside Weather were able to reimagine and manufacture the 4 core pieces that make up the collection.

The collection is inspired by a mutual commitment to sustainability, innovation, and above all, accessibility to beautiful design with zero compromise.

The Edgar Lounge Chair

A piece that nods to the Edgar Kaufmann House, commonly known as Fallingwater: one of Mr. Wright’s UNESCO World Heritage sites that’s recognized for its global significance. Inspired by a structure renowned for its unparalleled harmony between the human and the natural environment, the Edgar Lounge Chair uses elements of cantilever construction, organic wood slats and the juxtaposition of varying geometries to present an alluring silhouette that breathes seamlessly into any space.

The frame is constructed with Baltic Birch Plywood and an American Walnut or Maple veneer topped with a triple coat of UV cured clear, matte, eco-solvent finish. Each cushion is composed of layered high-density polyurethane foam.

The West Ottoman

The West Ottoman pays homage to Wright’s former home & fellowship headquarters, Taliesin West: one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites and a National Historic Landmark nestled in the desert foothills of Scottsdale, AZ. Inspired by a space that embraces open floor plans and free flowing channels, the West Ottoman offers elements of subtly descending geometries exuding a unique and innovative disposition for one of its kind.

The frame is constructed with Baltic Birch Plywood and an American Walnut or Maple veneer topped with a triple coat of UV cured clear, matte, eco-solvent finish. Each cushion is composed of layered high-density polyurethane foam.

The Hannah Side Table

Inspired in part by Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1936 the Hanna House, known for its unprecedented design based on hexagonal geometry, the Hanna Side Table is a reimagined representation of a one-of-a-kind model designed particularly for the “Honeycomb House.”

The Hanna Side Table is constructed with Baltic Birch Plywood and an American Walnut or Maple veneer topped with a triple coat of UV cured clear, matte, eco-solvent finish.

“The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation reached out to us about a year ago, as they were looking to work with a US-based brand that had a similar ethos/mission—providing simple, effective, and beautiful designs at an accessible price point. We really hit the ground running with their team, and it’s been a collaborative process to design the Usonia collection. We’re very excited about the partnership, and there’s more to come. Our product development team is currently working on more FLW-inspired designs that will launch over the next few months.”
